Wow. Thanksgiving has come and gone. My time spent in La Jolla with Patrick while he’s performing in Hunchback has come and gone. All the things I’d looked forward to during my stay out here have come and gone . . . some of which I never even got to do.

It’s not that I didn’t pack in a whirlwind of incredible experiences. Patrick and I had some marvelous, romantic, exciting adventures while in southern California together. If you follow me on social media you might remember posts from Laguna Niguel, my sunset birthday dinner, and our wedding anniversary excursion to The Lodge at Torrey Pines. We’ve been to Disneyland and kayaked with family visiting from Oregon. I even managed to get to Toronto and back to NYC for a few days in there.

But I had so many more grand plans that simply didn’t pan out. And now there is no more time left. Mostly I imagined visiting with friends who live out this way in La Jolla, Encinitas, San Diego, and Seal Beach. I pictured being a social butterfly creating new memories with those special people I don’t usually get to see on a regular basis. But time escaped me. What’s that saying, “Life is what happens while you’re making other plans.”

Three months ago it felt like there’d be oodles of time to pack everything in. But life gets in the way and the days pass by even if your friends are only free on the days you aren’t. The weeks tick away as you fruitlessly hope to find time for that dinner or that visit where you just sit and catch up without a stopwatch. Everyone has such crazy lives nowadays it seems that the quiet times never overlap with one another. I feel like that even happens with Patrick and me, and we live together! The days come and go so quickly I feel like they’re lost before we can spend them together.

And now, even as I was able to carve out a lovely Thanksgiving holiday, I can’t believe it’s over. Seemed there’d be hours and hours of talking, laughing, and sharing. I guess there were, but where’d they go? Before I know it, Christmas and New Years will have come and gone, too. It’s just now hitting me that it’s December. It’s December. Geez Louise, it’s December.

Wasn’t it August, like yesterday?
